Professional Certificate in Phlebotomy & Venepuncture Begin your journey into phlebotomy with a flexible, professionally structured training pathway designed to give you the knowledge, practical skills and clinical experience required for safe venepuncture practice. The programme is mapped at Level 3 and aligned with the Skills for Health National Occupational Standard CHS132 – Obtain Venous Blood Samples. Stage 1 – Theory Learn the essential knowledge required for safe practice, including anatomy and physiology, vein selection, infection control, patient identification and consent, blood collection equipment, order of draw, sample handling, sharps safety, complications, aftercare and documentation. This stage can be completed as a standalone theory certificate or used as the first step towards practical and clinical competency. Fee £99.00. Stage 2 – Practical Training Upgrade to a practical training day, available either live online via Zoom or face-to-face. Develop practical skills including equipment preparation, tourniquet application, vein identification, needle handling, blood collection technique, order of draw, tube handling, sharps disposal, aftercare and management of common complications. Fee £149.00. Stage 3 – Clinical Competency To demonstrate clinical competency, learners must successfully complete a minimum of 10 supervised venepunctures on real patients or consenting volunteers. This can be achieved by either: submitting a supervised clinical portfolio with evidence of 10 successful venepunctures; or Fee £99.00 attending a further face-to-face clinical practice and assessment day. Fee £175.00 Learners who successfully complete the full pathway and competency requirements receive a Clinical Competency Certificate in Phlebotomy & Venepuncture. This flexible programme allows you to start with theory and upgrade your training as your career develops. This certificate is accredited by the B.I.A.H.A. and the SNND.
