Frequently Asked Questions
On this page, hopefully, you will find the answers to most of your questions. If you have any additional questions, please don't hesitate to contact us.
Do I have to attend exams, assessments or practical classes?
Most of our courses are split into Theory and Practical. The theory elements can be assessed online and using distance learning techniques, and so can many practical elements. However, due to regulation and insurance purposes, you may need to attend either a live online class or a face-to-face practical training class. The number of these practical classes or days varies with each course and its requirements.
Are your courses accredited, and can I use them to work?
The quick answer to this is Yes, and Yes. There is a long and more detailed answer, though. Most of our courses do not have regulated qualifications or any legal requirements to have them. This helps us keep course prices to a minimum so that everyone has access to education and training and their future financial stability. It also means that we are in charge of the syllabus and can add more to it to increase the quality for our students. However, it's also a system where anyone can run courses, so we recommend all students do their due diligence before enrolling. Our courses mirror, where possible, regulated qualifications or accepted national occupational standards for a profession. Where there aren't any, we mix and match them with existing ones in preparation for any such eventuality. We also voluntarily only employ tutors who hold regulated teaching, assessing and internal quality assurance qualifications that you would expect of a regulated course provider. We encourage students to ask as many questions as possible to different providers, and then take some time to process before making decisions. We like to chat to students, give them advice, and have them visit us as well to see if they like us.
What is and can I apply for Recognition of Prior Learning?
Recognition of prior learning (RPL) is a process that tutors who possess a regulated assessor's qualification (CAVA) can assess your previous qualifications and experience against a particular course that you are enrolled on and award credits. For example, if you have an ITEC or other Regulated Qualification at level 3 in Anatomy and Physiology. Then you may be eligible for the award of RPL, if you were doing the Foot Health course. This would mean that you don't have to study or complete any assessments in this module/units. This saves you time and speeds up your studies. You should bear in mind, though, that you will still be asked oral questions about A&P, and be expected to demonstrate knowledge, understanding in other ways through case studies, work product evidence, etc. You would still be asked A&P questions during exams if appropriate to the situation.
If you undertake a course with us that isn't regulated and it becomes regulated, or we decide to offer it as a regulated qualification, you can ask to be RPL'd and undertake any additional assessments to gain the regulated qualification. You can also do this with other providers that may offer a regulated qualification. This is why it is important to keep all your course descriptors and portfolios. This is evidence so that other training providers can see what you have done. They may impose a 50-60% limit and charge extra for additional training required.
Assignments/Assessments: How long does it take to mark assignments?
This depends on how you're assessed. If you take a multiple-choice exam online, you should get your results immediately. The pass mark is set automatically according to the requirements of the course. This could be anything from 60 - 100%. If it's an assignment, it will be scanned for plagiarism and AI use first and then forwarded to an appropriate tutor for marking. You should allow at least 5 full working days for it to be marked. You will receive feedback if appropriate, and guidance if you need to resubmit. If it takes longer than 5 days, it may have been flagged for Internal Quality Assurance audit. We do this continually to monitor and enhance our courses, and also fairness and standardisation of how our tutors mark assignments.
Are there any practical classes? How and where do I attend practical classes?
Legally, you do not need to attend any practical. However, if you wish to practice professionally, you should seriously consider it, as you will be expected to get insurance, and many insurers will require you to have undertaken a certain amount of practical training and assessment. Therefore, for most courses, we offer practical classes. Practical/clinical instruction and experience are essential in these highly practical professions. You are also required to undertake instruction and assessment by a qualified tutor. We offer this practical instruction and assessment in many formats, so as to accommodate all UK and International students. We offer Live Zooms. Unedited video submission. Case study. Portfolio. Face-to-face workshops. Practical training days. Clinic attendance days, etc. We will try to accommodate all students, but our top priority is the quality and integrity of our qualifications. If we let this slip for one person, it affects the integrity of everyone else's hard work and efforts. Our graduates are proud to have graduated from one or more of our courses, because they are of high quality, and we intend to maintain this high quality.
Will I join a professional register and get letters after my name when I graduate?
Yes. You can join many professional registers. Each one has its own membership requirements, and you should contact them for such information. When you graduate from the UCHSc your name will be added to the Graduate Register of the appropriate faculty. E.G. Faculty of Aesthetics or Faculty of Health Sciences. You will be able to use the designation Registered with the faculty of Aesthetics MRFAes or Registered with the Faculty of Health MRFHSc. This register is a public record, and employers, clients and patients can download it from our website and use it to confirm or search for practitioners near them who are qualified. In addition, we publish a yearly journal and register online through Amazon in both online and printed formats. You may also have additional titles and designations depending on your course. These will be detailed on your certificate, and are used under licensure from us.
All certificates, registrations, logos, etc, are the property of UCHSc and must not be used without this licensure. Any certificate that is cancelled must be destroyed or returned to UCHSc without delay if we ask. We will only do this if we invalidate your qualification due to the non-maintenance of high-quality standards in a profession. All graduates are bound for life by contract to maintain high-quality standards of professional practice.
